ABOUT. |
A self-described fashion and pop-culture junky, Wyoming's love affair with photography began at a young age. Ask her what early influence affected her most, and she will tell you, without hesitation, "MTV." Fascinated with motion picture, magazines, music videos and pop-culture - Wyoming would spend hours watching her favorite stars and artists, pouring over magazines - and trying to dress up like her idols (much to her mother's dismay). In her early 20's, a close friend recognized her desire to find an outlet for the caricatures and myths she visualized, and bought her her first 35 mm camera. Wyoming was hooked immediately - spending hours wandering around junkyards, coffee shops, bars, and events - taking pictures of anything and everything that caught her eye. When you ask her why she got into photography, she'll first tell you "Seriously, what's more fun than playing dress up or rockstar?" If you press her further, she'll reveal more of the philosophy behind her art.
Wyoming's philosophy is built around her love of the human condition, and the lengths people will go to express themselves. In her photography, she strives to capture the Individual in whomever she shoots. She will tell you "Everyone is photogenic, everyone has something to say. As a photographer, you have to look without judgment, or without habit. Not everyone is going to look good in the same tired old portrait studio poses, you have to open your eyes and your mind to what each person has to say." She also insists that Soul must be present in every shot, regardless of whether it is a staged shot, or candid. "If someone catches your eye, it's a combination of reasons. Sure maybe you like their look, or the way they carry themselves initially, but if you look closer, you begin to see all the delicate imperfections and endearing qualities that make each person unique. When you work in the studio, you have the subject, the photographer, and a third entity - the chemistry between the two. I love to see what comes out of that moment."
Wyoming never tires of finding new ways to improve her craft. In 2003, with a few local shows under her belt and a lot of ambition, Wyoming moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams. She continues to shoot original and inspiring content, embracing the artistic freedom of digital, and plans to start shooting video in the near future.
